Billups and Afflalo have their revenge

AUTHOR: madness | IN: Analysis | COMMENTS: None Yet

For all the good Chauncey Billups has done since being traded back to the Nuggets, the one team he couldn’t beat was his former team the Detroit Pistons.
However, that all changed Friday as Billups and another former Piston Arron Afflalo made sure of that. Billups scored a game-high 25 points, while Afflalo connected on four treys to help the Nuggets end their struggles against Detroit wtih a 107-102 victory.
With his family sitting courtside, Billups was nearly unstoppable driving to the basket and either drawing a foul or nailing a shot over the Pistons defense.
Early on Rip Hamilton was a pain [...]

No defense needed

AUTHOR: madness | IN: Nuggets | COMMENTS: None Yet

Is there any other way to describe a game between two of the top three offensive squads in the league?
The Nuggets never scored under 29 points a quarter and the Warriors scored 87 points going into the final quarter AND they were losing by 11.
And Denver brought out its big guns tonight. With Mr. Big Shot leading the charge, the Nugs hit 16 3-pointers in the contest and Chauncey Billups couldn’t miss.
He nailed three treys in the opening quarter and scored 19 points in the opening half. It’s sometimes hard to remember he is 33-years old, but somehow Billups continues [...]

Big Z in Denver?

AUTHOR: madness | IN: Nuggets | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

It was first mentioned as an after thought last week, but it is true Denver may be interested in Zydrunas Ilgauskas after the Wizards buy him out. And as soon as it happens, Big Z will have until March 1 (next Monday) to find a playoff team to play for and the Nuggets are hoping they are his next home.
For starters he is huge and a veteran. And he has range on his shot. For his career the Big Z has averaged 13.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks. Finding a player that his 7-foot-3 is tough, but one that [...]

The Wild, Wild West

AUTHOR: madness | IN: Nuggets | COMMENTS: None Yet

Every year it seems like this, but once again it is getting crowded at the top of the Western Conference.
Going into All-Star Break, it looked to be a two-horse race, with the Lakers the top seed and the Nuggets right behind.
Now two weeks later and the two-horse race has now turned into four. And it wasn’t the teams that most thought to start the season, the two favorites early on Portland and San Antonio have struggled to get on a routine with both squads struggling with injuries and rolls.
However, the Mavericks and the Jazz have quietly narrowed the gaps in [...]

Looking back on a crazy and wild week

AUTHOR: madness | IN: Nuggets | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

I guess it is easy for one to sit back and wish and hope that their team gets everything figured out after the All-Star break.
However, as crazy as things were for the Nuggets before the break – things just got crazier.
ROUND 2: Even before the team opened the second half of the season, the players were alarmed to hear that their coach, George Karl, was battling cancer for the second time. This time in his throat, which will force him to miss some games. The first game will be this coming Thursday when the Nuggets face the Warriors. It will [...]

Standing Pat

AUTHOR: madness | IN: Nuggets | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

As the trade deadline looms with a little less than 15 hours left, there is still no indications that the Nuggets are going to make a trade. While teams like Dallas and Portland have looked to upgrade their teams, but all indications are the Nuggets standing pat.
They inquired about Ben Wallace, Antonio McDyess, Ronny Turiaf, Hakim Warrick and Kurt Thomas. However, logically Turiaf, McDyess and Big Ben would really help this team and of the three only Big Ben’s salary is contract friendly.
The Nuggets don’t have the best trading assets, as very few teams have bit on the likes of [...]

Time to put the game beside

AUTHOR: madness | IN: Nuggets | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

As much of the sports nation, I was deepen surprised and saddened to hear of George Karl’s new bout with cancer. And at that instance him as coach is an after thought and everybody sees him as a father, son, husband and as a person. Thoughts and prayers once again go out to another member of the Nuggets family, as almost two years ago Denver’s Brazilian center had to battle testicular cancer.
While Karl has banged heads with his players over his coaching years, all those issues went out the window as Denver’s entire squad stood by its coach’s side as [...]

Breaking down the trade rumors

AUTHOR: madness | IN: Nuggets | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

It’s that time of the season again, where rumors and trades are tossed around. The Mavericks broke the ice yesterday by acquiring Brendan Haywood and Caron Butler, and Monday some major talks ocurred:
Marcus Camby to the Blazers for Travis Outlaw and Steve Blake. Not sure if this deal is final or not, but rumor is it is. But I for one am not a fan of Camby and it goes back to his days in Denver. He didn’t rotate on defense and he didn’t venture from the paint, not to mention he has the ugliest jumper in the league. However, [...]
