Trading into the draft

Crawford – It is surprising that Crawford isn’t getting more attention, currently he is projected to go early in the second round and if he does it could possibly be the steal of the draft. He has shown the ability to take over games and he showed last season when he dunked on LeBron James that he isn’t intimidated by anybody. During the tournament he proved he had the IT that NBA players have. The biggest downfall of Crawford is he likes to dominate the ball and that never works for rookies, especially those on playoff teams. At worst Crawford would be a nice bench player, but his potential is among one of the best in the 2010 Draft.

  • Williams – A 6-foot-4 guard that transfered from Duke to Memphis, he doesn’t have the attention of Walls or even Evan Turner. However, it is hard to find a flaw in Williams game. He is a good enough shooter from behind the arc, athletic enough to attack the basket and smart enough to be a solid defender. He has been compared to former Grizzlies’ guard Michael Dickerson and current Mavericks spark-plug Jason Terry. If he is anything close to either he would be a valuable player. (Players listed from best to worst).
  • Gani Lawal – Lawal was overshadowed this last season by former teammate and current top-three pick potential Derrick Favors. He actually scored more points and averaged more rebounds than Favors this last season. He doesn’t have Favors size, but he is extremely athletic and still pretty young (20 years old). Lawal has potential to be an NBA player due to his athleticism and post defense, but if he develops his offensive game he could be starter in the League. Currently he has been compared to Chris Wilcox, hopefully only with a better attitude.
  • Varnado – Meet the next Bo Outlaw. Varnado is rail thin, with virtually no offensive game and the sooner he realizes it the better for his career. The best Varnado can be is a role player and those may be the most important players in the NBA. If his defense is half of what it was in college he could be a valuable asset and Varnado will help any team in the NBA, especially the Nuggets.
  • Jordan – This Tulsa center may be one of the rawest players in the draft and you can’t coach size. This 7-footer is a good rebounder and shot-blocker and an improving game. And while there are more polished big man in the NBA and on the Nuggets, not many that would be playing for as little as Jordan is.
  • Warren – Warren is like JR Smith lite or maybe JR is Warren-lite, either way this is a very questionable pick. But the best time to take a chance on Warren is late in the draft and if this former Sooner can improve his attitude he could be the steal of the draft. Imagine Ben Gordon with a killer instinct.
  • Brackins – Much like Jordan, Brackins is one of the older players in the draft but unlike Jordan he is one of the most ready players as well. Brackins has shown the ability to score and almost averaged double-doubles the last two seasons. He also brings a very good attitude and before the Nuggets even dare think about bringing back Malik Allen they should look at Brackins.
  • Latavious Williams – Williams is an intriguing prospect, he jumped from the High School to NBDL last season. He didn’t rip up the league, but like Varnado he can at best be a nice role player. His biggest assets to the NBA is his motor and rebounding, he could be at best a Jason Maxiell without Maxiell’s size.
