The summer of Carmelo

I might be mistaken, but wasn’t this suppose to be the summer of LeBron James? But lately it has been the summer of Carmelo Anthony.

First the New York Knicks were going to save up their money this offseason so they can sign ‘Melo next season. Than the Denver Nuggets offered ‘Melo a max deal of $65 million for 3 years and than there were speculations that Nuggets were possibly going to trade Melo if he doesn’t sign the extension. Followed by, Mark Warkentien coming out and saying the team wanted Anthony to be the Nuggets’ John Elway and than of course Mr. Big Mouth, Me-First, Pick-and-Roll Amar’e Stoudemire told the New York Daily News that Melo and Tony Parker are prepared to join him in New York. And finally today there are reports that Carmelo was close to signing the extension and the Nuggets are not going to trade him no matter what.

Confused? Yeah, that is the power of today’s Internet, no official reports, a bunch of he-said she-said and according to sources, but nothing said in stone.

However, the reports today made sense. Saying that Melo is willing to sign the extensions as long as the Nuggets have valid move to improve the frontcourt. What that means to me is Kenyon Martin is gone and most likely we will be seeing the likes of Andris Biedrins or Al Jefferson in a Nuggets uniform before the start of next season. Both are solid additions if worked out. Biedrins is a better rebounder and defender, while Big Al has the second best footwork in the NBA behind Tim Duncan. If I had to choose between the two I’d say Jefferson because he is a constant 20/10 guy, but Biedrins is more likely and is also a better defender.

Also the Nuggets are also rumored to be seeking Brad Miller and hometown boy Louis Amundson. Both would be an upgrade over Johan Petro and Malik Allen.

Let the Summer of Melo, or LeBron continue.
