Nuggets closing in on Griffin

A little less than two weeks after the Denver Nuggets cut ties with Mark Warkentien and Rex Chapman, it sounds like the Nuggets have found their replacement.

The team has interviewed former Phoenix Suns executive David Griffin, as well as the Kings’ Jason Levien, Hawks’ David Pendergraft and the Raptors’ Masai Ujiri, with Griffin being the front runner.

He is good friends with current Nuggets executive Bret Bearup and is one of the hottest names in the front office market.

He used to be the Suns assistant general managers, and quit after the resignation of Steve Kerr. He helped put together the Suns squad which challenged the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference Finals and is also a self-described ‘basketball junkie. ‘

Here is a nice piece on him at Blazersedge.com.

The Nuggets want to sign an executive for the position within a week or sooner. And hey, who knows maybe Griffin coming to Denver may guarantee Louis Amundson, who is a favorite of this blog, to the Nuggets since they will have a roster spot open since they are likely to waive George Karl’s son Coby Karl.
