If you have been keeping in touch with the NBA rumor mill Friday, you understand that the Denver Nuggets very likely could send Carmelo Anthony to the New Jersey Nets in a four-way trade (with Charlotte and Utah) for rookie big man Derrick Favors and veteran forward Andrei Kirilenko and his expiring contract.
Now where it gets tricky is if Anthony would be willing to play with New Jersey and if the Nuggets would actually sign off on the deal. That could be decided as early as today or as late as Monday, due to the trade having a Monday deadline at least that is what sources say. And the consensus among many in the NBA is that Denver gives Anthony the best chance to win (well outside of the Chicago Bulls) and vice versa, even more so than the New York Knicks. And late Friday night both parties among Anthony and the Nuggets were dragging their feet on the deal.
Melo will more than likely be willing to sign the extension to play for the Nets, who will soon be making the move to Brooklyn (his home town), but some sources still doubt he will and still say his heart is set on joining the Knicks. However, the more powerful and reliable sources went as far as to tell Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo that ‘CAA agent William Wesley – aka Worldwide Wes — has been the top pitchman working ‘Melo on accepting deal to Nets.’ Now you have to understand that Worldwide Wes is the most powerful man in the NBA and has been behind Anthony leaving the Nuggets (even more so than Anthony’s wife Lala). He has a belief that the business side of Melo can benefit more in a bigger town than Denver and preferred that Anthony be in New York and play at Madison Square Garden. While the Nets aren’t the first choice, playing for a Jay-Z owned squad doesn’t hurt.
But while this whole MeloDrama going down, Anthony and his associates continue to deny all of it on Twitter. Earlier this week he denied rumors by saying ‘Everyone has there own opinion. Its funny. It cracks me up.’ and followed it up by saying ‘When I know something< you guys will know something.’ And late Friday, his team page @TeamCarmelo15 said ‘Carmelo Anthony is playing 4 the denver nuggets this season! hes gonna dominate. i promise! ITS BULLY SEASON.. NOW CAN WE STOP WIT ALL THIS?’
The bottom line in this whole thing is that Worldwide Wes and Anthony’s associates want to force the Nuggets hand and trade him to the Knicks and Denver called ‘TeamAnthony’s bluff’ and not all is happy about it. And for Denver and Anthony it is a lose-lose situation. Melo can’t dictate where he is going to play and the Nuggets lose their franchise player.
