The Denver Nuggets are at a stand still as they wait for Nene to make his decision. It is rumored that the Nuggets, Houston Rockets and the New Jersey Nets are in the running for the Brazilian big man’s services.
The Rockets offered Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol a max deal, but the Grizzlies wisely matched and the Nets are currently waiting to see what happens with Dwight Howard.
As the Nuggets wait for Nene’s situation to unfold, they put Arron Afflalo on the back burner which is a dangerous game Denver is playing.
NUGGETS LOOKING TO ACQUIRE SPEIGHTS
The Philadelphia 76ers are eager to part ways with fourth-year big man Marreese Speights and rumor has it the Nuggets are interested in the former Florida star. Ken Berger reported that the Nuggets are willing to deal a second round draft pick for Speights.
Speights , who is only 24 years old, has a lot of potential with great size (6-foot-10, 255 pounds) and athleticism. He also has great touch offensively, with range on his jump shot. He is a solid shot blocker, but struggles on defense.
Speights has a career average of 7.2 points and 3.7 rebounds and has one year left on his rookie deal worth $2.7 million.
WILLIAMS AN OPTION FOR NUGGETS
In an effort to create enough salary cap space to make a large enough offer to DeAndre Jordan the Golden State Warriors renounced the rights to small forward Reggie Williams.
And rumor has it the Nuggets are one of five teams interested in his service. The other teams are Charlotte, Detroit, Sacramento and Toronto.
Williams is an unheralded player, who can score with the best of them. He has surprising athleticism and shot .423 from behind the arc. Despite averaging only 20 minutes last season, Williams averaged 9.2 points a contest. His ability to score in bunches makes him an ideal pickup for the Nuggets, who lack players with a scoring mentality.
If he signs with Denver he’d give the Nuggets a scoring spark off the bench and could see time at shooting guard and small forward.
