Nuggets-Magic Preview

The Denver Nuggets (20-16)  are going for their third straight win as they take on the struggling Orlando Magic (12-22).

Ty Lawson and Danilo Gallinari are hoping to have a repeat of their performance from Monday night on Wednesday when the Magic come into town. Lawson posted a double-double with 21 points and 10 assists against the Lakers while Gallinari had 20 points and 6 rebounds. The Nuggets haven’t had any problems putting up points in bunches the last two games. Denver is averaging 111.0 points per game over their last two games, scoring 110 against Utah and 112 against the Lakers. Denver has had at least five players in double figures in each of those games. The Nuggets are hoping to keep their fast paced offense on a roll as they go on their current homestand. They’re 11-2 at home this season.

The Magic, on the other hand. have been struggling as of late. have lost 9 straight. The depleted Magic roster is being led by former Nugget Arron Afflalo. Afflalo is averaging 17.6 points per game this season, a little over 5 points more than he did in his three seasons with Denver. Orlando has desperately been trying to replace Dwight Howard since the August trade but have seemingly been unsuccessful. Glen “Big Baby” Davis helped when the Magic played Denver in the first game of the season by adding 23 points and 12 rebounds back on December 2nd. But now the Magic are without Davis and are 24th in scoring in the NBA. The Magic are 5-10 on the road this season.

Match up to watch: Ty Lawson vs. Jameer Nelson

Coming off a 21-point game, Lawson is trying to remain healthy. While he has immense talent, his leadership abilities still need to develop. When he moves the ball, the offense starts to click. Lawson scored 12 points and had 7 assists in the last meeting. Nelson is coming off a game where he became the Magic’s all-time leader in assists. Nelson has continued to improve since day one. He has to now become more of a leader and a scorer without Howard, and if the Magic want to get back on track, look for him to step up at some point. Nelson had 9 points and 7 assists in the last meeting.

Tipoff is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. ET Wednesday night.
