Pete D’Alessandro will take over the Sacramento Kings’ basketball operations

Denver Nuggets executive vice president of basketball operations Pete D’Alessandro is leaving to take the general manager job for the Sacramento Kings. D’Alessandro will be formally introduced on Monday. He takes over for Geoff Petrie who was recently let go in a front office shakeup by new Kings owner Vivek Ranadive .

The Kings went 28-54 last season and have been under .500 for the last seven season. He was considered the frontrunner for the job with the Nuggets after Masai Ujiri left for Toronto. After a franchise record 57 wins the Nuggets have let everyone in their front office go.

Josh Kroenke has left Nuggets fans upset and unclear of the team’s direction. Going into the NBA Draft, later this month, it looks like whoever the Nuggets take with the 27th pick will be chosen by Josh Kroenke himself.

edit: June 17 11:55 a.m. – Tim Connelly has been hired and will be in charge of the 27th pick.
