Cinderella Nuggets beat 11th seed Pelicans

The Nuggets came to play yesterday as they knocked off the 11th seeded Pelicans in the first round of the NBA’s summer league tournament. Jordan Hamilton played inspired after returning from his cousin’s funeral. He scored 18 in the first quarter and finished with 23 points on the night. This looked like a completely new nuggets team and one that should be feared in the tournament.

Quincy Miller continued to improve and give Nuggets fans hope for the upcoming season. He had 17 points On 6-10 shooting, 5 boards and one blocked shot. The big surprise from him however was his 3 point shooting as he was 5-5 from downtown. Watching him step up and shoot from beyond the arc I thought I was watching a game of NBA Jam. Quincy Miller was on fire.

After the game this what he had to say “We played defense that’s the bottom line. We got back made stops and our stops led to offense.” When asked about if he felt more comfortable shooting Quincy said this ” I just talked to my coaches and they said just do one thing at time. I’ve got so much to my game that I can do at once. They told me just be calm and do one thing at a time. That’s what Coach Hunt told me. I asked if Nuggets fans can expect him to shoot the three more this season he said “I mean if I get the opportunity I’m gonna shoot it.” As for what he will bring to the Nuggets this season Quincy replied” Energy and Fun.”

The Nugget changed up their lineup starting C.J. Harris over Erick Green and it seemed to work out well for both. Harris was perfect from the field shooting 3-3 and finishing with 7 points. But it was Green who shined. He was more aggressive  and attacked the rim. I was starting to question the Nuggets pick but I think it just took a little time for him to adjust. Green had 14 points was third in scoring for the Nuggets.

As for Evan Fournier he continued to be aggressive and show Nuggets fans they have something special. After the game he said” After three losses we knew we had to step.” On being aggressive and attacking the rim Fournier  had this to say “I’m an aggressive player so I have play aggressive to score and make plays. That’s just the way I play.

Overall it was a great game. Even Ty Lawson was even impressed “It’s good they came ready to play today finally got a win. They shook off their nerves and showed what they can do. It will be interesting to see what they can do as they face the Toronto Raptors today.
