It is safe to say that the Nuggets season have been disappointing so far this season. Last season they only lost 3 games at home, but have already lost 9 this year. The reality is this is a different team. A much different team. However, there is still hope for the Nuggets this season. They have a legitimate shot of sliding into the playoffs, but some changes are going to need to be made. Here in this article, I will discuss some potential ideas that could help save the Nuggets season.
The first order of bushiness is adding a legitimate big man. Danilo Gallinari may be out the entire season while he is recovering from his torn ACL and that is a problem. Gallinari was a big time player for the Nuggets last year and he obviously has been missed. Another big man that has been missing for the Nuggets has been JaVale McGee. It’s not that McGee was a star or anything, but his presence is definitely felt when he is on the court. There has been no updates on his leg injury and missing the season is not out of the question for him either. Another reason the Nuggets need a big man desperately is the poor play of Kenneth Faried. Faried just hasn’t been able to score the ball much this season as he is averaging only 10 points per game.
Now, how could the Nuggets try to land a big man? It is no secret that the bench is deep on this team, so they have options. The Nuggets could look to deal a few players such as Timofey Mozgov, and J.J. Hickson and land one legitimate player. Or, they could try and trade Andre Miller with one of the two to land one. There are many options thanks to the depth of the bench, but adding a legitimate post player would really send the Nuggs over the top.
A more far fetched move that the Nuggets could make is adding a star. Adding another stud scorer along with Ty Lawson could be deadly. But how could the Nuggets do this? They could look to package a hot Randy Foye with a few role players to land the star that they desperately need. Like a trade for a big man, there are many options thanks to a deep team, but this would be a long shot. Again, what star players could available at the trade deadline also remain a major question.
The Nuggets are playing like a .500 team. They get a huge win, but then follow it up with an ugly loss. It is frustrating to watch, and clearly something needs to change. The team needs to deal Andre Miller sooner rather than later so that they can get a difference maker asap. A trade for a big man is more realistic, and is a scenario that could easily happen. The Nuggets need to make moves fast before they start losing more games and find themselves out of the playoff race.
