Tonight, the Denver Nuggets will take on the Portland Trail Blazers. The Nuggets come into tonight’s game after suffering two poor losses in a row. The Blazers also come into the game on a two game losing streak, but are in much better shape then Denver. The Blazers have won 31 games, and are going to be a handful for the Nuggets to say the least.
The Nuggets have lost two games in a row. Both games should have been won, and it is has been disappointing. The issue has been defense. Simply put, this team can’t play defense for all four quarters. It doesn’t matter how points that they score a night, because they need to get stops on the other end. Now that the Nuggets have had a few days off, the hope is that they have used them to fix their issues on the defensive side of the ball.
The Portland Trail Blazers are third in the Western Conference and they are a very good team. They are led by Lamarcus Aldridge and Damien Lilard. Both players are young, and extremely talented. Lilard against Lawson is going to be fun to watch, but Lilard should have a field day with the Nuggets poor defense. He can shoot the three, take it to the rack, and basically do whatever he wants. The second year player is developing into one of the best point guards in the league, and he will look to have another big night tonight at home.
Lamarcus Aldridge is who worries me most about the Blazers. The power-forward is averaging 24 and11 for Portland and he should have no problem scoring. The Nuggets big man have been awful at defending opposing players and he is one of the best in the NBA. It will be interesting to see how Brian Shaw plays Kenneth Faried in tonights game. He played only 13 minutes against Phoenix, but his defense is definitely going to be needed tonight.
The Nuggets are going to need Ty Lawson, Wilson Chandler, and Randy Foye to step up in tonights game. The three have been great scoring the ball, and the Nuggets cannot afford a breakdown from any of them. Three point shooting is going to be important also for the Nuggs in the game and they need to hit 3′s to keep it close.
It is really hard to pick the Nuggets to win this game. I hope I am wrong, but the Blazers are just much better than us. Hopefully, Brian Shaw corrected the defensive issues and the team can get back on track. However, I’m predicting a Portland win with a score of 117-109.
