News and Notes for Nuggets vs Blazers

The Division Rival Potland Trailblazers “fire” into Pepsi Center tonight to take on your Denver Nuggets in a game that could pose some difficulty for the Home Team.  The Blazers are currently 38-18 on the season in 2nd place in the Northwest Division.  They are 5th in the Western Conference but only trail the #1 seeded Oklahoma City Thunder by 4 games in a very tight race at the top of the Conference Standings.  The Nuggets come into this contest off of one of their worst losses of the season (Man have we been saying that a lot lately) a blowout at the hands of the Sacramento Kings who hold the worst record in the West.  Denver is sitting at 25-30 and 8 games out of the 8th playoff spot.  They are actually closer to the hapless Lakers with the worst record in the West then they are to a playoff spot.  I’m pretty sure most Nuggets fans felt that even with the changes the team made in the offseason this team had the talent and drive to get to the playoffs.  That has not been the case thus far this season.  The Nuggets have made a change in the starting lineup for tonight’s game as well as Timofey Mozgov will get the start at center moving J.J. Hickson to the bench.  Aaron Brooks will get his 2nd straight start for the Nuggets after coming over from the Rockets.  One thing that may give Nuggs fans some hope is that the Blazers will be without their All Star and best player LaMarcus Alldredge as he will miss his 4th straight game with a strained Groin injury.  That should open up the middle and the Nuggs can concentrate on speedy Point Guard, Damian Lillard, and try to contain him tonight.  That task will go to Brooks who can keep up with Lillard, but can he slow him down once he gets the offense in gear?  As coach Shaw said after the Sacramento game, this team has to play an almost perfect game to win right now due to the injuries and lack of cohesion on the team.  Will we see a perfect game tonight?  As much as I would like to say “Yes”, I just don’t think it is in the cards for the undermanned Nuggets and the Blazers will win the game but the Nuggets will make it interesing.  We can only hope that this game keeps our attention through all 48 minutes unlike some of the recent contests involving our favorite NBA Team.
