Lawson is becoming a Star

The Denver Nuggets were battling against the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday Night and I realized something about one of the players on your Denver Nuggets.

Ty Lawson is becoming an NBA Star.

When Lawson was out with a fairly serious rib injury, the Nuggets were a very bad NBA team.  With Lawson back in the fold after recovering from his injury, the Nuggets LOOK like a playoff team.  In Lawson’s absence, the Nuggets went 1-8 and got severely run out of the gym on many occasions without their diminutive Point Guard on the floor.  Since his return, they have gone 2-1 and their offense has come alive like it hasn’t for most of this season.  While Lawson was out with his rib injury, the Nugget went 1-8 and averaged only 93.5 points per game.  Since Lawson returned they are 2-1 and are averaging an “80’s Like” 125.6 points per game.  There was a point in the game last night against the Lakers that I realized that the Nuggets offense is slightly better than putrid without Lawson on the floor.  He left the game in the middle of the 3rd quarter and the Lakers ( with their pathetic roster) went on a 12-2 run that got them back in the game after the Nuggets had led by as many as 23 points.  Coach Shaw had to play Lawson more minutes than he would have liked in a game that appeared to be out of reach against the shell of a team that represents the Lakers these days.    Lawson has gone off for over 30 points in 2 of his last 3 games since his return and now leads the NBA in Assists at 9.0 per after going for 11 against Minnesota in a loss in his first game back, 7 against  the Mavericks in a win against a team fighting for the 8th playoff spot, and a “John Stockton like” 17 against the Lakers last night.  In the 3 games since his return, Lawson has averaged 27 points and almost 12 assists a game and the Nuggets have gotten some of their MOJO back.   Although this season for the Nuggets has been less than inspiring, one thing is for sure, Ty Lawson is now making his mark on the League and appears to be a Star for years to come.  Now if the Nuggets can surround him with a better Roster, we may have something here in the Mile High City.  Follow your Nuggs on Twitter @ NuggLove.
