Nuggets host Duke's Rodney Hood for workout

The Denver Nuggets are beginning their workouts in their hopeful search for the best player they can possibly get with the 11th pick in this year’s draft.  According to Mile High Sports, they begin that quest today with a workout by Duke University product Rodney Hood.  Hood projects to be either a shooting guard or small forward in the NBA.  His vital stats are that of a classic “Swing” player in the Association as he stands 6 foot 8 and weighs in at 208 pounds which puts him in the same class as a Wilson Chandler in size.  Hood averaged 16.1 points per game last season for the Blue Devils and hit 42% of his 3 pointers for the year.  One other good thing about Hood is that he is not as young as some of the other players in this year’s draft.  He is 22 years old and has a unique history in how he arrived in the draft in 2014.  He was recruited by Mississippi State and spent his Freshman season with the Bulldogs.  He then transferred to Duke after that season and had to sit out a year due to those ridiculous NCAA regulations about players transferring.  He spent last year with the Blue Devils and announced his intention to enter the draft after Duke’s loss to Mercer in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The only real knock on Hood at this point in him being a good NBA prospect is that there is some concern about his ability to defend NBA caliber players.  There is talk that he occasionally takes possessions off on the defensive end of the floor.  I’m sure the Nuggets will run drills with him against the players they have that are in town for offseason conditioning to give him a taste of the NBA talent he will be going against next season.  The Nuggets are not the only team that will work out Hood as he has up to 8 other workouts either completed or scheduled prior to the draft.

I think Hood would be a pretty good fit for the Nuggets.  He is a good outside shooter and it is well documented that the Nuggets need help from behind the 3 point arc.  If we here at Nugglove hear how the workout went, we will let you know how he looked.  What do you think of the Nuggets going after Rodney Hood with the 11th pick?  Tell us in the comments and follow us @Nugg_Love.
