The Denver Nuggets have played in a lot of great cities and exotic locales in the franchise’s storied history, but this fall, they’ll head to unchartered territory when they travel to Iowa. Wait, what?
The NBA recently announced that the Nuggets will head to the Hawkeye State for a preseason game against the Golden State Warriors on October 16. The contest will be played at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, the state’s capital and largest city.
The player with the biggest connection to the state appears to be Harrison Barnes of the Warriors. From the Ames Tribune:
“Harrison Barnes is coming back to Iowa for an NBA game. Barnes just wrapped up his second year with the Warriors. He averaged 9.5 points and 4.1 rebounds this past season as Golden State made the playoffs for the second straight season. [He] is familiar with Wells Fargo Arena. He won two state championships in the building as he led Ames to back-to-back undefeated seasons.”
Having spent some time in Iowa as a kid, I have to admit it isn’t at the top of my list when it comes to cities I’d like to see the Nuggets visit, but kudos to the league for bringing the game to cities that don’t have the chance to regularly watch NBA games up close and in person.
So, Nuggets fans, are there any of you out there who will pack up the Family Truckster and make the road trip to Des Moines for a preseason game? Let us know in the comments below.
