According to the following link, Will Thomas is joining the Denver Nuggets for the upcoming Las Vegas Summer League. Let’s answer the question, who’s Will Thomas?
Will Thomas celebrated his 28th birthday on July 1st. At the tender age of 28, Thomas will be the elder statesmen of the Denver Nuggets summer squad. The first bit of news from Thomas’ on his Wikipedia page is the following:
As a starter in his sophomore year, Thomas was part of the 2005-06 Mason Final Four team. During his college career, Thomas was named to the Colonial Athletic Association’s All-CAA second team in 2007 and first team in 2008. He was named to the CAA All-Defensive Team for the three straight seasons. In his senior season, he was the runner-up for both the CAA Player of the Year and CAA Defensive Player of the Year.
Will Thomas’ first stop after University was to Belgium. Here is a snippet from an article from Thomas’ alma mater congratulating him about his success in Belgium:
Former George Mason men’s basketball great Will Thomas was rewarded for an outstanding season with the Belgacom…when he was recognized as the league’s Most Valuable Player and winner of the Star of the Coaches Award.
Thomas leads all (Belgian league) players with an average of nine rebounds per game to go with 14.9 points in better than 33 minutes of action per game.
From Will Thomas’ Wikipedia page again:
For the 2011-12 season, he signed a contract with BC Armia from Georgia. He helped them win the Georgian Cup.
Last season, Will Thomas played in Italy. RealGM stats page has Thomas as the team leader in scoring (15.3 points per game), field goal percentage (.570%), steals ( 1 per game) and blocks (0.4 per game). Thomas finished second on his team with 7.4 rebounds per game.
Just due to his age, I feel Thomas is being brought to Vegas simply to fill a rotation spot. Here’s hoping he proves me wrong.
