According to Mile High Sports, Nuggets Vice President of Basketball Operation Tim Connelly announced that the team has finally signed first round picks Jusuf Nurkic and Gary Harris to rookie Contracts ensuring that they will be in Nuggets uniforms for the 2014-2015 season.

To sign Nurkic, the Nuggets had to buy out his Contract with the Croatian team he was already signed on to play with next year and that was the last hurdle in inking Nurkic to his first NBA Contract.  The signing of Harris was more of a formality as he played with the Nuggets summer league team and there was never any doubt that he would sign his rookie contract, it was just a matter of “dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s”.

The two 19 year olds round out the Nuggets roster for 2014-2015 as the team is now at the 15 player roster limit with only 12 players allowed to be active on game days.

Connelly commented on his excitement about the two players on draft night and this is what he said,

“I think the two guys we drafted are long-term plays. I’m really excited with the backcourt we have returning with Nate (Robinson, Ty (Lawson), Randy (Foye), and Aaron (Afflalo). I think collectively you’d be hard-pressed to find a better foursome,” he added, “With Gary and Jusuf, we’re going to take it slow. They’re going to have to earn their minutes. And certainly I think it will be difficult initially for them to find court time, but those guys are long-term plays and we want to get them in our system, get them working with our coaches.”

“I like what’s in front of them, and I like the guys they’re going to be learning from.”

Harris was the Nuggets best player in the summer league averaging a cool 18.6 points per game and Nurkic was part of Bosnia’s under 20 team that won the Division “B” Championship in Europe earlier in July. So both have been playing, and playing well, this summer so that should translate into good starts to their respective NBA careers.  Now let’s get on with Training Camp!  Follow all your Denver Nuggets news @Nugg_Love.
