NBA Trade Deadline Scenario: Denver Nuggets and Atlanta Hawks

facebooktwitterreddit

It’s no secret the Nuggets are faltering, and what better way to commemorate the losing than to blow up the entire philosophy that the Nuggets were trying to establish than by trading away all of the core players and maybe even firing Coach Brian Shaw!

The Nuggets find themselves just about where they were last year (if not worse), being 19-32 heading into the All-Star Break. The only difference is that this year they are losing with a decently healthy roster opposed to last year when they were playing without key players for the majority of the games.  What I’m trying to get at is that they are bad with the roster the GM thought would be good… so now it is time to make some trades and get some fresh players/draft picks to get this organization out of neutral and back to having some direction.

I have conjured up this unprecedented trade idea; tell me what you think if you have an opinion:

TRADE SCENARIO (Atlanta and Denver):

Atlanta gets: Wilson Chandler, Arron Afflalo and a Future Second Round Pick

Denver gets: Thabo Sefolosha, Kent Bazemore, Elton “he’s still in the NBA?!” Brand, John Jenkins and the rights to have the Nets 2015 first round pick.

Out of all the trades that I have thought up of, this one sounds the most fair to me. The Atlanta Hawks are having a historic season out of the blue, having already won 42 games before the All-Star Break, and when the NBA Title is as wide open as ever it’s time for Atlanta to finally go all in after making the playoffs the last seven years and never doing anything big. They could really use another competent SF like Wilson Chandler who is arguably better already than their starter DeMarre Carroll, and Arron Affalo would be an extremely dangerous weapon off the bench to back up Kyle Korver come playoff time for the Hawks. These additions could potentially boost Atlanta over the proverbial hump and get them to the mountain peak of the NBA when it’s all said and done in June.

The Nuggets only take on those Hawks players for salary cap reason. The real reason this makes tons of sense for Denver is because this Nets draft pick is most likely the highest they could muster for either Wilson Chandler or Arron Afflalo combined. The Brooklyn Nets are having an awful season and will most likely earn a Top 10 pick if they fail to make the playoffs. Combine that with the Nuggets lottery pick this year and the potential ownership of the Thunder’s “only if they miss the playoffs we don’t get their draft pick” pick then the Nuggets are looking at THREE pick in the Top 18 for 2015!

Can you say Denver suddenly has a future?!
