Chris Dempsey of The Denver Post has just reported that the Denver Nuggets have fired Head Coach Brian Shaw. Here are Dempsey’s tweets that broke the news:

Details about the firing are sketchy at this time but it appears the Nuggets tired of Shaw’s lack of institutional control and pulled the trigger on his firing before the end of the regular season.  The Nuggets are currently 20-39 and in 13th place in the tough Western Conference and have lost 6 in a row overall and their last 10 at home. The losing certainly had something to do with Shaw’s departure, but it may have been how he managed the team off the court that had just as much of an impact.

Shaw has been on the hot seat most of the season and it got hotter as time went on when Shaw accused his players of tanking games and not playing at 100%.  He also offended many of the younger players on the team when he said he was reading books on millenials to try and better understand that generation of player.  He also made changes to the gameday schedule by moving the shootaround to the afternoon and had the players dropping their cell phones in a box on game days.  Shaw went 36-46 in his first season as Nuggets Head Coach and leaves with a combined record of 56-85.
