NBA Draft: Blow It Up
By Mike Wilson
With the draft under a day away, let us look at a unique but understandable thought for the Nuggets this NBA Draft.
Blow it up.
Just blow it up already.
In a league dominated by stars and personalities, the Nuggets have insisted on standing by the philosophy of building a deep roster with well-rounded players, that may amount to be something more.
Rather than going for broke on a star, they would rather spread their funds out across the figurative roulette tables.
Hear me out.
I propose – we keep our young-blood talents (Nurkic, Mudiay, Jokic) and then proceed to sell/ship/trade/barter the rest of our roster. The hope would be that what we get in return will bring a household name, or two, over to Denver. I will leave it to you who these household names are. The reason for this is that Denver was found out to be last in attendance for the ENTIRE NBA last season.
In seven pro seasons, Gallinari has never averaged more than 20 points per game, never been named to the all-star game, and never advanced out of the first round in the NBA playoffs. He has definitely under-performed in his NBA time.
The initial excitement that came with Faried’s predator dreads, high energy, and the fact he won a national defense award in college has long worn off. (That was a sweet nickname too. I hope the kids equally love it where you eventually end up- if we trade you.)
Darrell Arthur is rumored to opt out of his contract by the end of the week to feel out the market anyhow. Later, Rock Chalk! We have been buying the Kansas and MSU college pedigree names. What colleges have Mudiay, Nurkic, and Jokic played for?
How did each of those guys do respectfully their first season(s)? Even Faried for that matter – he went to old Morehead State.
I guess what I am saying is this is the new NBA, and it’s unfortunately left to a handful of teams in the East and in the West. Each of those few teams usually are led by a super star, or a duo/trio of super members, very unlike the parity we see in the other pro-sport leagues in America.
“This will blow your mind. The Nuggets want to give an unproven rookie a contract worth in excess of $8 million, and it seems as if nobody wants to take their money. With the team’s first-round pick in the NBA draft, Denver will select a player who has stubbornly refused to come to town for a workout.”

And don’t tell me players don’t want to come to Denver. Although Denver doesn’t come to mind when you think basketball greatness (a la- Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, etc), it is quickly growing into one of the most young and progressive cities in the country.
Let’s use our altitude and what happens to tourist’s lungs to our advantage, and let’s play Mike Malone defense along with developing that fast Steve Nash era Phoenix Suns offense back to the Pepsi Center (we will never mention PHX again in positive light).

I don’t care who you get, Tim. Just know what it is going to take. Blow. It. Up.
