There are many things that Wilson Chandler can be called. He is a good player for the Denver Nuggets and a great shooter from the three-point line. What many people may not know is that he is a very good and charitable person, as he recently sat down with Sports Illustrated writer Charlie Olesker for an interview about his volunteering for his home-town Boys & Girls club.

Wilson Chandler is from a place in Michigan named Benton Harbor, a town about two hours away from Chicago. He grew up in this town being practically raised by his grandparents, who took him in when he was about two years old. He credits his grandmother for raising him and being the person to get him into basketball. Check out the full interview with Wilson Chandler, here.

During his time recovering, he has been partnering and volunteering with Boys & Girls club in Benton Harbor in a program called Night Court, which has the main purpose of keeping kids off of the street. Wilson is quoted in the interview by saying, “Night Court is very important, especially in a town like Benton Harbor, where there is not much to do.”

Chandler also was asked what it means to give back to his hometown, in which he explained that was good to go back to his hometown and be a good role model.

As it was stated before, Wilson Chandler’s grandmother is a huge part of his life, and when Olesker asked what she meant to him, he had nothing but great things to say about her. He explains that “she is everything to him” and that the favorite things that they like to do with each other is to watch movies and basketball. As stated before, she was actually the one who got Wilson into basketball.

In fact, Chandler talks about his first basketball memory as bending clothes hangers into the shape of a basketball hoop and then balling up socks for the basketballs. His favorite team growing up was the Los Angeles Lakers, mainly because he was a big Kobe Bryant fan.
