Why Wade Not Coming to Denver Was a Blessing in Disguise

After Denver narrowly missed out on the Dwyane Wade sweepstakes last summer, it turns out that his decision benefited both Denver and Chicago.

The Denver Nuggets nearly landed their star in Dwyane Wade last summer. Despite making a compelling offer, he decided to return home to Chicago to play for the home town Bulls. I cannot really blame him for going back home.

At the time, it looked as if the Bulls were going to benefit from this while Denver continued to swim in the rebuild process. After this season, it is now clear that the decision happened to be a blessing in disguise for the Nuggets. Think about it. Wade got to return to his hometown and the Bulls were able to make it back to the post season after missing the playoffs the year before.

On the other side of the coin, the Nuggets were able to witness the growth and development of Gary Harris. Harris solidified himself as one of the up and coming two way perimeter players in the league this season. This means he is officially the best two way player on the Nuggets. If the Nuggets did land Wade, we would not have been able to see Harris make such strides in his game. If anything, it would have hindered his development and Denver would not have been able to cultivate his skill set in the best way possible.

Now, Harris is on verge to become a part of the top echelon of two way players in the coming years. For Chicago, while they may have not had as much success that they would have liked to have this year, they were able to attract Rajon Rondo with the Wade signing forming a big three of their own.

This has created an attractive destination for potential free agents. Wade gets to live out his childhood dream of playing for the team he idolized growing up while the Nuggets do not have to sacrifice the development of one of their best young players to appease a star.
