The Nuggets have made it clear they will try to extend Gary Harris this summer. They must not “try,” they must “do.”

Nuggets GM Tim Connelly has recently stated that they will try to extend Gary Harris’ contract this summer. This is a welcome sign. However, this needs to be a bigger priority than some people believe.

Gary proved that he was the anchor of this young squad this season. He missed the first part of the season and Denver struggled to find a rhythm early on. Once he returned however, things instantly started to look up. Harris became an offensive force to couple with his excellent perimeter defensive capabilities.

Per NBA.com, Harris was ranked eighth in three point percentage at 42%. The one thing that tends to get overlooked with Gary though is just how hard he works in perfecting his craft. Every year he has been in the league, he has drastically improved. He went from being a potential bust in his rookie to averaging double figures in points in his second year in the league. This year, his third season, he really improved his offensive craft.

Harris became a consistent offensive threat for the Nuggets by developing a solid jump shot and being able to hit from both deep range and mid range. Oh and how can we forget his ability to cut to the basket? There were multiple times where Harris cut to the rim and Nikola Jokic set him with a beautiful assist.

With a contract extension, Nuggets fans could get to see much more of that in the near and distant future. With his work ethic, it is clear that Gary has earned a contract extension. GM Tim Connelly needs to make this one of his main priorities this off season and he cannot fail in this task.
