Barton has made it clear he will test the free agent market next year.

Will Barton will test the markets next season which leads one to ask whether the Nuggets should trade him. In my honest opinion, I say yes.

Why you ask? Denver would be risking letting a key player go without getting anything in return which would set them back a bit in their progress. If I was the front office, I would be looking for offers right now to capitalize on the opportunity to get some extra youth in the draft or at the very least, get some extra cash for free agency.

Will Barton would a nice sixth man for many teams in the league and the Nuggets could seriously capitalize on this fact. A team like the New Orleans Pelicans could really use his services and the Nuggets could use him as leverage to bring in some added rim protection and/or a perimeter defender.

The Nuggets should seriously think about dealing Will Barton in the off season to avoid getting burned in next summer’s free agency. Otherwise, it could spell trouble for this franchise and throw a wrench into the growth of this young and developing core.

Barton is a player who is so hot and cold, which means the Nuggets need to see what they can get for him before it is too late. A deal involving could actually bring in what Denver exactly needs and propel them into post season contention.

As electrifying as Will Barton can be, the Nuggets need to honestly consider trading the sixth man this summer.
