The Nuggets somewhat made up for the first round by selecting Monte Morris with the 51st pick.

Monte Morris is not a household name, but he is someone who could break out in the Nuggets’ lineup. One of the questions going into this draft was the point guard situation for the Nuggets.

With this pick, it is now clear that Denver isn’t exactly sold on the future of Emmanuel Mudiay. Morris was a solid floor general at Iowa State and has the potential to be solid player in the NBA. Saying he will be a future All-Star is a bit of a reach, but he certainly will not be a bust either.

As a matter of fact, it is safe to say the Nuggets got a steal here. What is somewhat sad though, is that the Nuggets’ 51st pick happened to be their best selection of the night. Time will tell how Morris will pan out, but he is as reliable as they get. The man does not turn the ball over often at all, something that Emmanuel Mudiay cannot claim for himself.

Morris will most likely start out as a backup point guard, but he has the potential to eventually crack the starting rotation if he develops his game properly. He is not going to be the next Steph Curry, but that is not what the Nuggets exactly need right now.

Do not be surprised if Monte Morris ends up being the Mr. Reliable of this particular draft class.
