The Denver Nuggets were one of, if not, the worst defensive unit in the league last season. Expect this to change this coming season.

The Denver Nuggets’ defense should improve ten fold this season. After finishing as one of the worst defensive teams in the league, (if you do not believe me, then check the statistics), the Nuggets really have nowhere to go but up on this end of the floor.

There are a couple of reasons why they will improve as a defensive unit. First of all, the obvious reason is simply the addition of Paul Millsap. Millsap is a solid rim protector and showed this in Atlanta for years. He will be the perfect compliment to Nikola Jokic’s offensive skill set and bring a defensive grit desperately needed on Denver.

Second of all, Gary Harris will be looking to have a bounce back year defensively. Harris had a coming out party offensively last season, but his defense suffered a bit. Harris has always been a great lock down defender on the perimeter and should regain his form this coming year on this end. Do not forget, Harris was injured the first portion of last season and if he can stay healthy for the whole year, then who knows what will happen defensively for Harris this upcoming year.

Last, but not least, there is a chance to see other young players make a step forward defensively as well. While guys like Jokic are more known for their offense, they are still young and have room to grow.

After last season, it is clear which part of Denver’s game needs the most improvement. Therefore, if we do not see a slight jump in defensive production this upcoming year, it will be a significant surprise.

Denver will certainly improve defensively next season.
