Part 5 of 14

Wilson Chandler has been the most overlooked player the Denver Nuggets received from the New York Knicks in the Carmelo Anthony-trade.

Chandler, 23, quietly had an impressive start to his Nuggets career, averaging over 14 points and over .40 percent from behind the arc. His versatility makes him a poor man’s Shawn Marion and made him valuable, starting at power forward, small forward and shooting guard. Defensively, he stood his ground against Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant and Tony Parker and had a solid step back jumper.

However, Chandler did fall under the injury spell late and suffered through an injured ankle late in the season and in the postseason.

Chandler, who is a restricted free agent, may never be a star but he’s a very valuable role player. He also was a favorite of George Karl’s down the stretch due to his versatility, defense and hard work, but that is the reason why he could be making a splash in the free agency. The New York Knicks have already mentioned they’d like to have him back and Chandler would also fit in well with teams like the Boston Celtics and San Antonio Spurs. Either way, if a team does make him a too high of an offer the Nuggets probably won’t match him.

Jeff Green, Boston (RFA) – Green, like Chandler, plays multiple positions. But unlike Chandler, Green is better at power forward than small forward. Green is better on the defensive side of the ball than offensive, but he is still a big help on offense.

Thaddeus Young, Philadelphia (RFA) - At 22, Young is an amazing player. Great work ethic, very mature for his age and has a killer instinct. Young is undersized for the power forward, but lacks shooting range for small forward. But he is young and can give valuable minutes for any team.

Tayshaun Prince, Detroit (FA) – Prince is a jack-of-all trades player, he has great length for the small forward and at the same time has range and great ballhandling skills. Defensively he can guard 1 thru 4 and has great leadership.

Mike Dunleavy, Indiana (FA) – Dunleavy has always been a tease. He is a great teammate, but can’t win or lose games. He has great range and good ballhandling skills, but is at best a decent defender and can’t take over games.

Omri Casspi, Sacramento (trade) – Casspi jumped on the season last year. Great on the fast break and has a good midrange game. Good rebound and active defender, but may have played his last game for the Kings.
