Over the past week, the focus of the NBA has been on the trade deadline. Despite the multiple rumors around the league surrounding Dwight Howard, Josh Smith, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, etc., the headline move of the deadline was the Orlando Magic shipping J.J. Redick off to the Milwaukee Bucks for Doron Lamb, Beno Udrih and Tobias Harris.

Now that the worst trade deadline off all time has came and went, the focus can shift back to other issues and stories around the league. One of the stories that went unnoticed in the last few days was Denver Nuggets Head Coach George Karl winning his 400th career game as coach of the Nuggets.

Earlier this season, Karl won his 1,100th game against the Houston Rockets. With his 4ooth win as a Nugget, Karl sits in second place on the all-time wins list in Denver. Karl trails his former assistant and personal friend Doug Moe by just 32 victories for the most in team history.

Moe coached coached the Nuggets from 1980-1990 and Denver “retired” his 432 wins in a commemorative banner hanging high above the Pepsi Center.

Since Karl took over midway through the 2004-2005 season, the Nuggets have won 50 games four times and are on pace to hit the mark again.

With his team winners of 18 of its past 23 games, it appears Karl’s job is safe and he’s a shoe in to pass the Big Stiff by next year.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Denver Nuggets are unlikely to make a deal before Thursday’s trade deadline. While I tend to agree. nothing is guaranteed until the clock strikes.

One of the players the Nuggets have been tied to all season has been J.J. Redick of the Orlando Magic. I wrote yesterday that Redick wants to re-sign with the Magic in the offseason so it’s unlikely that they will deal him.

If the Magic were smart however, they could ship Redick away and get a nice return. The Magic are rumored to be asking for a first round pick for Redick and deservingly so. The 28-year-old Duke graduate is 15.3 points per game this year, up from his 9.2 per game average over the course of his career.

There have been rumors that the New York Knicks and the Magic have discussed a deal that would send Iman Shumpert to Orlando for Redick.

The Nuggets could use Redick as their three-point shooting and free throws have been their biggest challenge all season. Currently, only one Nuggets player has a higher three-point percentage (Evan Fournier .448 percent on just 29 tries) than Redick does. Also, Redick’s .887 free throw percentage would be the top percentage on the Nuggets right now.

The Magic have made it clear that they’d want a young point guard for Redick before, and that’s something that the Nuggets don’t have. What they could do however, is get a third team and swing a deal.

I was looking over at our good friends The Denver Stiffs and a possible trade they had laid out on the table that caught my interest.

Nuggets receive Samuel Dalembert from the Milwaukee Bucks and Redick from the Magic.

Bucks receive Jameer Nelson from the Magic and Wilson Chandler from the Nuggets.

Magic receive Brandon Jennings from the Bucks and Timofey Mozgov from the Nuggets.

I don’t know about you, but I like it.

The Nuggets get something for Mozgov and get rid of Chandler who has made it known he’s asked for a trade. Of course, they still have depth now with Dalembert at center and a three-point specialist in Redick.

The Magic get their point guard they want in Jennings and also have Mozgov who they could re-sign for cheap at the end of the season.

The Bucks get a replacement for Jennings (although not nearly as talented) and a 25-year-old with a ton of potential in Chandler.

While the deal is very unlikely to happen, anything is possible.
