It’s not Faried’s own personal relationship that he is standing up for, but rather that of his mother. Actually, make that mothers.

Faried posted a video sitting between his two mothers and explaining how much they mean to him. If it wasn’t for a sickness, his birth mother said they would have been the first same sex couple to marry in the state of New Jersey. Instead, they were the fifth.

“I support civil union, because it gives people — gays and lesbians — the right to make decisions on their own,” the Manimal says in the video. “If they want to get married and let them choose who they want to be with.”

The video was made for OneColorado. OneColorado is a group that dedicated to securing and protecting equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) Coloradans and their families.

Colorado just recently passed a bill that allows same sex marriage in its state. While they’re calling it a civil union, Faried thinks it deserves a different term.

“I don’t like it being called that because I can get married to a female and it can be called a marriage,” Faried says in the video. “Why can’t a female be married to a female and male be married to a male and it be called a marriage? You still have the same thing, same love and happiness.”

Those against same sex marriage have said that a kid can’t be successfully raised by two men or two women. If you feel that way, make sure not to say that to Faried.

“Nobody can ever tell me I can’t have two mothers, because I really do,” Faried says in the video.
