Nene won’t play in FIBA event

According to ESPN, Nene won’t play for Brazil in the FIBA event.

ESPN said, the Brazilian basketball confederation said Nene asked to be released on Friday, citing “personal” and “contractual” reasons.

The FIBA Americas Championship will be held in Argentina from August 30 to September 11.

Nene is currently working on an extension with the Denver Nuggets, and Chris Tomasson tweeted Sunday:

"Nuggets officials at Thursday’s draft remained optimistic about retaining Nene. Nene hasn’t commented. Extension deadline Thursday. $$$ key."

If an extension isn’t worked out, Nene is expected to opt out and become a free agent. He also will likely be the most sought after player in free agency.
