Nuggets Tidbits

Not a lot of big news with the Denver Nuggets, but an interesting anniversary has come and gone this month without being noticed.

On Aug. 13 1991 the Nuggets traded Orlando Woolridge, who at the time was averaging 25.1 points for the Nuggets, to the Detroit Pistons for a second round draft pick and little used big man Scott Hastings.

While Woolridge would play three more seasons for the Pistons, Milwaukee Bucks and the Philadelphia 76ers and finished his career averaging 14 points a contest.

Hastings would only played two more seasons – both with the Nuggets.  He averaged less than 2 points a game and only played 116 games with the Nuggets. But Hastings has won the hearts of Denver fans with what he has done off the floor. He has been a local celebrity as the Nuggets color commentator and also his image on the local radio stations.

  • Timofey Mozgov has been a key figure for the Russia team, helping them dominate Lithuania in a warm up game for the Eurobasket 2011. Mozgov scored 18 in the win and he delivered a facial in the victory.
  • Not to be out done, but the Nuggets rookie duo Jordan Hamilton and Kenneth Faried have been making their appearance felt in the Drew League. Hamilton scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the semifinal game. He saved his best for last and then getting a double-double in the finals contest with 17 points and 10 rebounds to help his team – LA Unified beat the Blazers 99-90. His brother, Gary Hamilton was his teammate in both games.
Faried, who was playing for the Blazers, on the other hand didn’t make quite the impact in the box score like Hamilton, but he still had an impact in the finals game. He scored an and-1 to start the finals game and had a key tip-in late in the contest.
  • Kosta Koufos will play for Greece in the FIBA tournament. He will be joined by foreign greats Antonis Fotsis and Nikos Zisi.
