Denver Nuggets free agent guard J.R. Smith may soon be joining his
former
teammate Wilson Chandler in China – but at a much higher price.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Smith is on the verge of signing a $3 million contract that would be the richest contract in the history of the China Basketball Association.
He would sign with Shanxi, and wouldn’t be able to opt out of the contract until after the CBA season is done – which would last until March.
If Smith does sign the contract, it would be a peculiar decision, especially considering that the NBA and its players are making progress in lifting the lockout. And when the lockout is lifted Smith would more than likely get a higher offer from an NBA team.
