With the NBA Draft behind us, teams and fans await their first chance to see their young stars play. That chance for Denver Nugget fans begins Saturday July 12th. That is the opening game for our Nuggets in the Las Vegas Summer League. Full Nuggets schedule listed here.
Denver Post writer Christopher Dempsey has already confirmed the beginnings of the Nuggets Summer League roster:
"While the full roster is not yet set, some of the names are coming into focus. The draft picks, Gary Harris and Jusuf Nurkic will be there. Quincy Miller will be on the team. According to RealGM, Towson F Jerrelle Benimon will be as well. Benimon was brought in for a pre-draft workout."
So, who’s Jerrelle Benimon?
Benimon’s former collegiate team, the Towson Tigers, offers us this perspective:
"Though not selected in the 2014 NBA Draft, Benimon will join the Heat, which will participate in the Summer League from July 5-11 in Orlando, and the Nuggets, which will compete in the Summer League from July 11-21 in Las Vegas.Benimon put together one of the most impressive two-year stints by a player in Towson basketball history. A two-time CAA Player of the Year and 2013 AP Honorable Mention All-American, Benimon ranked in the Top 5 nationally in both rebounding and double-doubles each year he was in a Tiger uniform. The 6-8 forward led the Tigers in scoring (18.7 ppg), rebounding (11.2 rpg) and assists (3.6 apg) as a senior."
Jerrelle Benimon somewhat sounds like a Kenneth Faired-type player. A person cannot argue with a team evaluating a potential double-double machine during the Summer League.
