Slam Dunk Contest Highlights: Denver Nuggets Edition
Well it seems like yet another year without any of our Denver Nuggets participating in the All-Star festivities so I decided that it was my duty and responsibility to bring joy into the heart of all you Nuggets fans out there by showing you the great highlights of our recent or current Nuggets players showcasing their high-flying abilities. Enjoy.
Feast your eyes on the young, hairy, potential-filled Chris “Birdman” Andersen in a 2004 Denver Nuggets uniform with hardly any tattoos. You’d be hard-pressed to pick today’s Birdman out of a lineup if all you had to go on was a picture of him from 2004, but watching this fresh-faced youngster throw down brings back great memories:
This dunk by the Nuggets J.R. Smith in 2009 may be my favorite. Say what you want about Smith these days, but during his time with the Nuggets, few players were as exciting to watch as he was. Pure Athleticism:
Current Nugget and former Washington Wizard Javale McGee put on a classic display by dunking two balls in the two baskets back in 2011. We haven’t seen much of JaVale the last couple of years, but this clip reminds you of the sky-high potential and raw energy that defined him just a few short years ago. Where did all that potential go and will he ever reach it in Denver? Who knows, but this is fun to watch:
The most recent Nuggets player to compete was Kenneth Faried back in 2013 when the Nuggets won 57 games, which personally was my favorite year of watching Nuggets basketball. Watching “The Manimal” compete in the dunk contest that year may have been my favorite moment of the entire season:
I hope these highlights cheered up all my deprived Nuggets fans out there! What was your favorite memory of Nuggets players to play on All Star Weekend?
