L.A. CLIPPERS
Over the last several days, the Los Angeles Clippers are the team that has emerged as the most likely destination for Afflalo if he is indeed traded before the NBA trade deadline. The Clippers are in the thick of the playoff hunt in the Western Conference, and a player like Afflalo could be the addition that helps them make the jump to the next level.
Afflalo would give the Clippers a reliable scorer at the 2-guard, but his presence could create a logjam at the position with J.J. Redick and Jamal Crawford, two decent shooting guards currently on the team’s roster. But for an Afflalo-to-L.A. trade to work, one of those two guards would likely be part of the deal, unless a third team was involved, and Redick is the more likely option, although the Nuggets might balk at acquiring the veteran shooter considering he’s under contract for $6.8 million next season and $7.1 million in 2016-17. Redick is the type of player who could fill a role for Denver, even if they enter a full on rebuilding period, but the Clippers likely would have to sweeten the deal with a first-round pick.
