Jameer Nelson, who was acquired via trade last season, is planning on opting out of his contract to become a free agent. Nelson was acquired from the Celtics, and he averaged 9.6 points and 3.7 assists per game once coming over to Denver.
Nelson received a lot interest last year as a free agent and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him get a better deal. He knows that he will not play much here in Denver, and this stage of career he likely wants to go play for a winning team.
Nelson walking seems like a loss for me as he was valuable off the bench. He was a solid back-up point-guard and it would be shocking to see the Nuggets get better production from that spot. It will be interesting to see if he actually opts out of his deal and what team he decided to go to.
