At the time still Chris Jackson, the 6’ 1” point guard competed in the 1993 slam dunk contest in Salt Lake City. The craziest thing about his participation…he had never even dunked in an NBA game! That’s right, they had to show highlights from college just to see him throw it down.

The skilled scorer and one of the leaders of the early 90’s Nuggets was a great player, but he didn’t have much business in the dunk contest. He was supposed to have the “Muggsy Bogues” effect, but at six inches taller than the little leaper, a normal size guy throwing down regular dunks doesn’t have the same gusto.

He went for the toss three times, but a two hander, modified windmill, and a reverse didn’t cut it. Harold Miner, the Miami heat rookie, stole the show and won the contest. Abdul-Rauf finished sixth and that was it for his dunking history.

Will Barton can take a page out of the point guard’s book with the tosses, but he’ll have to get way more creative in the air if he wants to pull off the victory.
