February 18th the Denver Nuggets won the trade deadline and got two players from the Oklahoma City Thunder; One of those players being DJ Augustin.

Augustin, now a little less than a month with the Nuggets, said to the Denver Post he would “love to be here” in Denver. The Nuggets would love to keep the 28-year old point guard too right?, in the last 10 games Augustin has averaged 12.5 points and 3.8 assists in 23.1 minutes per game (ESPN). He has filled in great for back-up point guard Jameer Nelson who has been battling a wrist issue and helped the further adjusting of rookie Emmanuel Mudiay. Even more recently, as Denver saw Danilo Gallinari go down with an ankle injury, the Nuggets have won three of their last five. Granted two of their games included the struggling Knicks and Lakers, but no one can argue the impact Augustin has had including when he had 26 points, 5 assists and went 9-9 from the free throw line against Los Angeles on March 2nd.

Still will the Denver Nuggets want to and be able to keep the veteran point guard?. As mentioned, Augustin is playing a lot in part due to Nelson’s injury. Nelson just this last offseason signed a new three-year, 13.5 million dollar contract with the team. Nelson had been averaging more minutes than Augustin with 27.1, but has only averaged 7.9 points in those minutes. Nelson is older then Augustin too, six years the elder of the former Texas Longhorn.  As Nelson heals and forgoes surgery for his wrist injury, the question comes will Denver keep Augustin in town, even as a replacement for Nelson.

“It means a lot to me,” Augustin said about getting to come to Denver and getting to get on the court, but the real question is will he get to stay on the court and stay in Denver?.
