2016 NBA Draft Grades
Boston Celtics
Jaylen Brown, SF (3), Guerschon Yabusele, PF (16), Ante Zizic, C (23), Demetrius Jackson, PG (45), Ben Bentil, PF (51), Abdel Nader, PF (58)
The Celtics went into draft day in procession of 8 picks and walked out with 6 new players. GM Danny Ainge plans to focus on only 2 or 3 of the players in Boston this year and the rest will spend the season overseas. Boston failed to make a deal that would add more star power to the team and make going to Boston more enticing for free agent superstar, Kevin Durant.
When Boston drafted Jaylen Brown 3rd overall, they made it clear he was the new plan, in hopes that he will help them get that 18th banner. Brown isn’t a bad shooter like he’s often put off as, and his perimeter defense is so underrated. He has the body and athleticism to be a great player.
Guerschon Yabusele is a 275-pound tank, that’s a lot of weight for a 6’8” forward… and they could have easily taken him much later in the draft. Boston thinks Zizic will eventually help them out down low, I’m not sure if he was the right choice either. Demetrius Jackson could beat out Terry Rozier as the team’s depth point guard. Ben Bentil is an absolute steal at #51, but no team needs this many prospects especially one already deep.
