A Team Destroyed

Finding two gems in the draft back-to-back is a rare thing these days. But, Oklahoma City not only found two gems; they found two of the leagues superstars without even having the No. 1 pick. Kevin Durant, who was drafted 2nd in the 07-08 draft behind Greg Ogden, and Russell Westbrook, who was drafted 4th in the following year, have given their Oklahoma City Thunder a show for years.

Oklahoma City, who have not seem the trophy hoisted since the 1979-1980 season, were just a couple minutes of incredible Klay Thompson shooting away from their next attempt at the Larry O’Brien.

Instead, it seems as though Oklahoma City is now falling apart; one superstar lost and the other is headed in that direction.

The Oklahoma City Thunder would return to their 31-51 form before they were able to grasp this elusive superstar in the draft. Therefore, without Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, the Oklahoma City will see their team dismantle right in front of them. The Thunder, who have build a contending team via the draft, have given hope to all the mid-major NBA cities such as Minnesota, Denver, Utah, and many more.

For all three of those teams mentioned, the sky is the limit, but when the limit is reached, will it the same story as it was for Oklahoma City?

Ultimately, no Kevin Durant will eventually set the Thunder back into early rebuilding stages for years to come. Just think, next season there is no chance that we get an invigorating series such as the Oklahoma City/Golden State one. That saddens me, and it should sadden every NBA fan.
