Nikola Jokic wins MVP as Serbia books trip to Rio Olympics
The Nuggets Serbian sensation, Nikola Jokic, was indeed sensational throughout the Belgrade tournament, taking home the tournament’s MVP award following Serbia’s dominant 108-77 victory over Puerto Rico in the Final.
With a trip to the Rio Olympics on the line, the 21-year-old Nuggets big man put together several sterling performances in a row during the tournament, culminating with a 23-point, eight-rebound and six-assist showing in the Final.
Serbia commanded action almost immediately, going on a 24-0 run after Puerto Rico opened the game with a three-pointer. In the ridiculous 37-11 first quarter, Jokic put up seven points, three assists, three rebounds and a steal in just seven minutes.
This highlight of the Final begins with Jokic dishing a sweet no-look pass for the score and at around 1:06 of the clip, Jokic catches a pass in the post, spins and scores in one beautiful move.
Jokic led the tournament in both points (17.8) and rebounds (7.5) per game in helping his team qualify for the Olympics for the first time as an independent nation.
Congrats to the Big Honey on his outstanding performance and well-earned MVP award! Nuggets Nation can continue to cheer Jokic on at the Rio games.
