Professional Career

Hernangomez started his professional basketball career in Spain in 2012 with Estudiantes. He played with the second team there until 2014 when he was promoted to the first team. Juan also started playing for the Spanish under 18 and under 20 national teams during his time at Estudiantes.

During his final season as Estudiantes before entering the NBA draft, Hernangomez had a very impressive season. He averaged 9.3 points per game while shooting 45.5% from the field. He also averaged 5.7 rebounds per game while playing roughly 24 minutes per game. At just 20 years old, he showed he could be very productive at the highest level of European basketball. Hernangomez consistently improved his shooting percentage while at Estudiantes, showing his ability as a stretch four.

His time in Spain showed that he had the competitiveness, productivity, and skill set that could translate to the NBA game.
