Analysis: Denver Nuggets Summer League Grades
By Drew Albee
Emmanuel Mudiay and Gary Harris = A-
Both Emmanuel Mudiay and Gary Harris only appeared in the opening game of Denver’s 2016 Summer League experience, but in their minimal time on the court in Vegas, last year’s starting backcourt exhibited why the two guards were named to the USA Basketball Select Team. Each player registered 33 minutes in the opener, and the two led the Nuggets to a comeback victory over Kris Dunn and Minnesota’s Summer League squad. Mudiay and Harris combined for 45 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists last Friday.
After Dunn’s length and defensive engagement proved to be a bit problematic early on, the two Nuggets guards locked in and seemed to be a step ahead of their counterparts from Minny the rest of the way. Mudiay went for 23 points, eight rebounds and six assists while Gary Harris put up 22 points, four rebounds and a pair of steals.
Mudiay and Harris played well together in Vegas and appear poised to take their partnership to new heights next season. The chemistry between the two guards is obvious and it was encouraging to watch them show it off against the T-Wolves in Summer League play. Let’s hope the rapport between Mudiay and Harris continues to develop and evolve at the USA Olympic Training Camp this week — also in Las Vegas.
Mudiay, Harris and the rest of the USA Basketball Select Team will help prepare the 2016 USA National Team for the upcoming Olympics in Rio this week.
