Axel Toupane had a pretty solid week in Las Vegas. The French wing didn’t play out of himself and try to be something he isn’t.

Toupane is an athletic, perimeter defender who needs to develop his jumper to become a 3-and-D wing in the NBA. He played lockdown perimeter defense in Vegas, evidenced by his 2.4 steals per game, but only splashed 2/8 (25%) of his three-pointers on his way to 7.4 points per game.

Toupane rebounded well in Sin City, snagging 4.8 rebounds per game, but the soon-to-be 24-year-old player did not do enough to guarantee his contract and earn a spot on the Nuggets’ roster for the upcoming season.

The competition between Toupane and other wing players on the fringe of the roster did not see substantial results during Summer League play, so it will heat up once again during training camp.

Let’s see if Toupane will finally be able to shut the door on his competition.
