The Denver Nuggets have had an eventful summer, and they could look to make a splash with a big trade. Here is why they should target Paul George and not Westbrook.

With trade talks continuing to sizzle as we approach the 2016-2017 season, the Nuggets have been a team mentioned in potential trades. One most recent has been Russell Westbrook because of the uncertainty if he will end up resigning with Oklahoma City. If the Thunder aren’t able to reach an extension with Westbrook before the start of the season or before the February trade deadline, we should expect to see Westbrook traded.

Denver would not end up being the destination spot for Westbrook, if he does in fact get traded. It is understandable as to why Oklahoma City might try to negotiate a deal with Denver; the Nuggets have a lot of assets, however, it wouldn’t benefit them for the long term if they traded for Westbrook. Westbrook wants to win now, and the departure of Durant is going to be extremely rough for Westbrook, and he has reportedly expressed his anger. He is in fact looking forward to the season with the Thunder.

Joining the team that knocked you out the playoffs in the Western Conference finals after being up 3-1? Of course, this will anger Westbrook, but at the same time who knows what Westbrook would have done if he was a free agent this year. After losing Durant for nothing, its pretty clear what the Thunder will do with Westbrook if doesn’t agree to an extension.
