Lafayette a.k.a “Fat” Lever

What he did: 17.0 PPG, 7.6 RPG, 7.5 APG, 2.5 SPG and a 2 time All-Star

Why he deserves this spot: To make a comparison, Russell Westbrook is to today’s NBA what Fat Lever was to the NBA in the 80’s. That’s not to say that Lever was anything close to the athletic freak of nature that Westbrook is. It’s purely because they both get triple doubles.

Most people say that “Magic” Johnson was the king of triple doubles in the ’80s, but it was really Lever who ruled supreme.

Don’t believe me? Well if you check, Lever went toe-to-toe with Johnson in terms of total triple doubles per season. Johnson only barely had more because he is taller than Lever by six inches, which is a lot in basketball.

The fact that Lever could “stuff the stats.” as well as he did, and at only 6’3”, means that he was truly a once in a lifetime player.

Unfortunately, his prime only lasted about four seasons and he was probably snubbed out of two more All-Star appearances. But, Lever’s contributions to Denver Nuggets will never go unappreciated or unforgotten.

Additionally, you’d think that in today’s small-ball NBA, Lever would still dominate nearly every statistical category.
