NBA: Ranking the NBA’s Top 10 Current Centers
By Blake Holmes
At number seven, the Rookie of the Year from the Minnesota Timberwolves, Karl-Anthony Towns.
I said earlier that there aren’t too many big men that can shoot the ball better from three than Nikola Jokic. Well, here is one of them, although it’s not by too much. Many people saw the potential and upside to Towns when he played for Kentucky, and the Timberwolves obviously did when they selected him with the first pick in the 2015 draft. Towns would go on to prove that it wasn’t a mistake, as he averaged 18.3 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in his rookie season. He also shot close to 54 percent from the field and 34 percent from three. These numbers would be good enough to earn him the Rookie of the Year award, and I truly think that it was well-deserved. If Minnesota can keep their young core with Towns, Andrew Wiggins, Zach LaVine, and recently drafted Kris Dunn together, they could be a scary team to look out for in the upcoming years.
When it comes to his defensive game, Towns averaged over two blocks per game, and stayed sturdy in the paint. He really showed people why he deserved the Rookie of the Year, and why he deserved to be the number one pick. However, if his potential shows anything, this is just the beginning. He has the potential, playing style, and overall talent to be a very special player in the NBA, so he is definitely a player to keep eyes on.
Even though he can play both PF and center, Towns is a unique talent that definitely has impressed me enough to be on this list.
