NBA: Ranking the NBA’s Top 10 Current Centers
By Blake Holmes
Making the number four slot is the ferocious big man from LA, DeAndre Jordan.
There aren’t many big men that are as aggressive in the league today than DeAndre Jordan. Jordan fits the profile that many think of when they think of a center, very comfortable in the paint, a great rebounder, and an incredible defender. He has yet to win a Defensive Player of the Year award, but he has made the All-Defensive 1st team two years in a row now. He has been a part of the “Lob City” clique in Los Angeles for a while now, and has had some of the most ferocious dunks in recent memory. Brandon Knight can definitely agree to that. This being said, his stats have been from more than just dunks and defense. During this past season, Jordan averaged about 13 points and 14 rebounds per game. When he has a team loaded with players like Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and offensive weapons like J.J Redick and Jamal Crawford, he doesn’t need to be the leading scorer on the team. The most mind-boggling thing about Jordan is his field goal percentage, as he shot over 70 percent from the field last year! There isn’t a big man in the league that can compare to that.
With every good player, most have their weaknesses, and like Drummond, Jordan’s free-throw percentage is also terrible. Although the percentage wasn’t as bad, it was still about 42 percent, not quite where a player wants their percentage. They are called free throws for a reason, but it’s not so much of a free throw when a player misses over half of the time. In fact, it’s so bad that a couple of teams resorted to playing “Hack-a-Jordan,” where teams would intentionally send him to the line to try to shoot free throws.
He doesn’t have much of a stroke from the line, but he has proven that he can hold his own in the post in this league.
