NBA: Ranking the NBA’s Top 10 Current Centers
By Blake Holmes
At number three, it’s the big man from Sacramento, DeMarcus “Boogie” Cousins.
Boogie Cousins is a part of the top three in my list, narrowly beating out DeAndre Jordan. There are many stats that I took into account, and he isn’t the greatest locker room presence, but the fact of the matter is that this guy can play, and play well. Coming out of Kentucky six years ago, Boogie has been loyal to the Sacramento Kings for his entire career. Recently, many trade rumors have appeared pairing him to many other teams, and his skill should demand a lot from the other teams. For example, in the 2015-2016 season, Cousins averaged 26.9 points and 11.5 rebounds, as he was literally almost the entire skill for the Kings. He only shot about 45 percent from the field, but when a player takes as many shots that he is expected to take, a defense plays much better defense on him. I thought about many things when deciding between Jordan and Boogie for this spot, but one thing in my head put Cousins ahead of him.
That’s right, Cousins can actually make a free throw when he gets sent to the line. When he was sent to the line to shoot an average of 10.2 free throws, he made 7.3 of them, which adds up to a 71.8 free throw percentage, compared to Jordan’s 42 percent. Not only can Cousins make a free throw, but he has shown to have some range and will make the occasional three-point shot. Cousins is a lethal offensive weapon, and he also averaged 1.4 blocks per game last year as well.
Cousins is starting to make his name known in the NBA, and will try to bring the Kings back to relevance in 2016.
