As the great Dikembe Mutombo watched, the Denver Nuggets suffered their first loss to the Portland Trail Blazers in an home opening overtime thriller.

The Denver Nuggets came out in their rainbow skyline jerseys, and it showed. After a rough start early, the Nuggets battled back to take a commanding seven point lead into the fourth after a 34-19 third quarter.

The most spectacular part about this game was the ability for Denver to rally around their team as a whole. They put six players in double figures and were almost able to pull it out. This game came down to the wire. Actually, it came down to one referee call late in the game that send Coach Malone irate.

Denver’s top performer was Nikola Jokic, who had 23 points and 17 rebounds while shooting a respectable 10-20 from the field. Emmanuel Mudiay also played a fair game as he was able to put up 20 points on just 7-20 shooting. His five turnovers isn’t a huge deal, but it should be mentioned.

Let’s all leave happy though. The Nuggets were able to retire a jersey of one of their legends in Mutombo, and it was quite the site to see.

With several writers at the game, it was a privilege to capture this brilliant moment.

Even with a loss, the Nuggets performed very well, and they should be excited because just as our first tweet mentioned, they could be playoff bound.

Mile High Basketball is official back, and it starts by winning these games.
